After I updated to iOS 5 yesterday, I realized I lost all of my Voicemails on my iPhone 4.
First I thought and hoped that my iTunes would perhaps have these stored – but I was mistaken.
Then I thought and hoped that maybe iCloud had them now – but I was mistaken.
Last I thought and hoped that maybe, just maybe, my last BackUp before I updated would be the solution once restored – but I was mistaken.
Not wanting to lose some funny and hilarious and even nostalgic recordings, but not knowing what to do next, I started searching the web.
After a while I got lucky and stumbled upon this little article which helped a lot, mainly by providing me with this very useful app, which I can highly recommend!
After downloading, it was pretty self-explanatory, but here is nonetheless what I did:
- Downloaded the App
- Clicked on the Button “Read Backups” (which lo and behold held 4 BackUps I didn’t know existed)
- Scrolled all the way down to “iOS Files” and clicked “Extract”
- Picked a Destination Folder
- Found my Voicemails in $myFolder/Library/Voicemails and a lot of other useful files, including photos and such
Well, I am happy now, I got everything I needed.
Hope this helps you too!
Cheers,
dM
Thank you so much for that app!!! I had lost a REALLY important voicemail and now I have it back!! How do I get it back onto my phone??
Since it’s a simple .amr file you could probably load it via iTunes into your iCloud / Music Folder.
That’s what I would do.

Please help me. I am having the same trouble as Zoe, only when I try and download the app from the above link, nothing happens. I am using a PC. I am really desperate to get this one voicemail back.
Thanks
Louise
Hey Louise,
sorry, the App I put in the link was for Mac OS X only!
But there are several programs which will let you do the same thing, albeit maybe not for free.
Check out this program or this one and see if these work for you.
If not, let me get home to my PC and see what else I can find on the internet…
Good luck!
Thankyou so, so much! It cost me £15 to get it for my system, but I would have happily paid 10x that to get it back.
You’re a genius, so glad I found you
Louise
